Funeral services for Francis E. Brunet, age 94 of County Route 6 Ogdensburg, will be held on Wednesday June 8, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Notre Dame Church with Rev. F. James Shurtleff officiating. Burial will follow the service at Notre Dame Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 5 – 8 p.m. at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home. Mr. Brunet died Sunday morning, June 5, 2011 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Surviving is his wife Rebecca; a son, William Brunet and his companion Sue Leeder of Ogdensburg; daughters, Lorraine Todd and her husband Robert of Delray Beach, FL, Veronica Russell and her husband Thomas of Clifton Park, Mary Brunet and her husband Kurt Plagge of Ames, IA; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Louise Cook and Theresa Perrin, along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by four sisters, Cecil Stowell, Marion Roy, Agatha Joomey, Genevieve Stowell and four brothers, Maurice, Joseph, Theodore & Ernest Brunet.
Francis was born on March 28, 1917 in Hermon, a son of the late Joseph & Edith (Tessier) Brunet. He attended Hermon rural school for his education and began working on local farms as a lumber jack in the North Woods. He then purchased his own farm in Porter Hill, NY that he operated for many years. He then sold the farm and became engaged in the under ground mining at Clifton Mines until he transferred to the Benson Mines where he worked as a heavy equipment operator for 20years until it closed.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and hunting in his younger years. He was a member of the Hermon Volunteer Fire Department and a 3rd degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus.
