Filomena “Fillie” Murphy, 93, passed away Friday, December 23, 2011 at Claxton – Hepburn Medical Center in Ogdensburg.
A funeral mass will be held Wednesday, December 28th at 11:00 am at St. James Catholic Church, Gouverneur with Fr. Stephen Rocker officiating and spring burial in New St. James Cemetery, Gouverneur. Calling hours are Tuesday from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Green Funeral Home, Gouverneur.
Filomena was born July 14, 1918 in Rochester, daughter of Dominick and Crucifissa DiTullio Fiacco.
She graduated from Norwood High School and from St. Lawrence Psychiatric School of Nursing in Ogdensburg.
Fillie worked as a registered nurse at Potsdam Hospital, E.J. Noble Hospital in Gouverneur, and as a nurse for St. Lawrence County Public Health until retirement in 1973.
Fillie married Daniel Murphy on April 20, 1944 in Norwood. Mr. Murphy, a retired employee of Niagara Mohawk Power Company, passed away April 10, 1997.
The couple resided in Gouverneur since 1950, and Fillie moved to Ogdensburg in 2005. She enjoyed spending winters in Winter Haven, FL and summers at Trout Lake, playing golf and cards.
Fillie is survived by three daughters, Bonnie Clapp of Willeston VT, Marlene and Kevin Reilly of East Syracuse, Phyllis Biosi of Smithville; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband, her parents, a brother Luigi Fiacco, two sisters Fortunato Tyo and Teresa Avery, and a son-in-law Ron Clapp.
