Father Emile G. LaLonde, age 97, of Gouverneur, passed away on Sunday, July 3, 2011 at St. Joseph Nursing Home in Ogdensburg.
Father Emile G. LaLonde was born on March 25, 1914 in Ogdensburg. He is the son of the late Albert and Laura Simard LaLonde. He went to school for six years at Holy Cross School in Ogdensburg, then attended school in Talcville and graduated from Edwards Central School. He then went to minor seminary for four years at Wadhams Hall in Ogdensburg. He graduated from major seminary at St. Augustine in Toronto, Canada.
He was ordained in Ogdensburg on June 7, 1941 by Bishop Francis Monaghan. He was a priest at Notre Dame in Malone from 1941-45, St. Patrick’s in Rouses Point from 1945-50, St. Francis Xavier in Redwood from 1950-60, Holy Angels Church in Altona from 1960-63, St. John the Baptist in Madrid from 1963-66, St. Cyril in Alexandria Bay from 1966-69, St. Augustine in North Bangor from 1969-72 and St. Francis Solanus in Harrisville from 1972-79.
Father LaLonde is survived by several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by four brothers, Raymond, William, Ralph and Joseph; and six sisters, Laura Bastin, Anna Northrup, Beatrice Ruley, Catherine LaDouceur, Eumelda LaLonde and Aurore Hurley.
Calling hours will be from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 noon on Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Edwards. The funeral service will follow at 12:00 noon at the church. Burial will follow at St. James Cemetery in Gouverneur. Arrangements are with French Funeral Home, Edwards.
