GOUVERNEUR – Faith Elizabeth Bacon, age 84, passed away on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at E.J. Noble Hospital in Gouverneur.
Calling hours will be at French Funeral Home, Gouverneur on Wednesday, November 20, 2013 from 6 - 8 p.m. Her funeral will be on Thursday, November 21, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Lecelle Providence of the Antwerp Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow in the East Riverside Cemetery, Gouverneur.
Faith was born on January 5, 1929 in Gouverneur to the late William and Grace (Bush) Foeppel. She attended the Gouverneur Central School.
She married Herbert Rookey Jr. on January 8, 1947. The couple operated their dairy farm on Pine Hill. Mr. Rookey passed away on September 14, 1968. Faith married Stanley Bacon in 1971. Mr. Bacon passed away in 1995.
Faith worked as a sales associate for W.T. Grant’s Department Store in Gouverneur for many years before working as a bus monitor for handicap students.
Faith loved time spent with her family; including babysitting her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a fantastic mother, housekeeper and cook. Faith was a member of the Gouverneur United Methodist Church and enjoyed going to services there.
Her survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and Dale Freeman of Edwards; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Michael and Elka Rookey of Sacramento, CA, Robin Rookey of Gouverneur; and a sister, Shirley Vittorio. She is also survived by nine granddaughters and 14 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husbands, Faith is predeceased by her brothers, William and Wayne Foeppel.
