MASSENA -- Elwood “Peanut” LaBarge, of Massena, NY passed away Friday afternoon, August 16, 2019 at Massena Memorial Hospital, with his loving family by his side.
Family and friends are welcome to call the Phillips Memorial Home, Massena on Monday evening, August 19, 2019 from 6:00 - 9:00 PM.Funeral services for Peanut will be held 10:00 AM Tuesday, August 20, 2019 morning at Phillips Memorial Home with Pastor Rachael Jordan presiding. Burial to take place in Massena Center Cemetery immediately following the services.
Peanut was born to the late Geraldine (Gardner) and Sylvester LaBarge, Sr., in Niagara Falls, NY, on November 22, 1944. He spent all of his adult life in the North Country and made his living in the Dairy trade, working as a machine operator for several local business and farms.
He met his loving soon to be bride, Jean “Jeannie” Converse at a dance in the early 1960’s and shortly thereafter they were married, on September 17, 1966, in the Grace Methodist Church, in Massena.
Peanut enjoyed spending time with Jeannie and their family, especially their grandchildren. Peanut was always there to help relatives and friends in his free time and he will be remembered for the many occasions he and Jeannie made and delivered homemade treats to the Massena Police Department during the holiday seasons. He enjoyed looking after his lawn, spending time with family (especially dinners), hunting with his sons and the trips spent traveling with family. Peanut will be missed by many and will be remembered for his generosity and sense of humor. A kinder man the world will never know.
Peanut is survived by his wife, Jeannie; his two sons and their spouses, Kenneth W. and Tanya LaBarge, and Daniel L. and Jamie L. LaBarge; and his four grandchildren, Blade, Aspen, Tyler and Ryder; all of Massena, NY. He is also survived by his siblings, Sylvester “Jack” LaBarge Jr., Ethel “May” Ward, Gary LaBarge, William “Billy” LaBarge, Cynthia “Cindy” Beckwith; along with several step-brothers and step-sisters, nieces and nephews. Peanut is predeceased by his parents and sisters, Ida “Sally” Carman and Barbara Bruce.
The family of Elwood LaBarge would like to extend their sincerest gratitude towards the physicians and staff of Massena Memorial Hospital. They would especially like to thank the ICU Nurses and E.R. staff for the heartfelt care and professionalism during all of Peanut’s hospital visits.
