Elwin W. (Watt) Weatherup, age 71, of Gouverneur, passed away on Wednesday, September 22, 2010 at his home under the care of his family and Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley.
Elwin was born on October 26, 1938 in Gouverneur to Roland and Lula (Taylor) Weatherup. He attended Hermon Central School and then enlisted into the United States Army and served during the Korean War.
Elwin worked as a Steel Fabricator for CIVES Steel in Gouverneur for 32 years. He had also worked as an inspector there for 1 year. Elwin’s pride was his log cabin, which he built and his rose garden. He also loved putting together puzzles and reading western novels.
Mr. Weatherup is survived by two daughters, Candy and Bill Meeks of TN and Tammy Newvine and her companion Fred Resch of Gouverneur; a brother, Dale Weatherup of Philadelphia; two sisters, Ellen Chambers and Elaine Lewis, both of Gouverneur; and 10 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Elwin was predeceased by a son, Scott Weatherup who passed away in 1995; and two brothers, Gordon and Lynn Weatherup.
There will be no calling hours. There will be a graveside service on Friday, September 24th at 11:00 a.m. at Riverside Cemetery in Gouverneur with Rev. Kenneth Leamon officiating. There will be a luncheon following the service at 114 Cambray St., Gouverneur.
