A Masonic Service for Ellsworth A. Charlton, age 94, of Morristown, will be held on Thursday, May 5, 2011 at Frary Funeral Home at 6:00 p.m. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery in Heuvelton with Military Honors. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, May 5, 2011 at Frary Funeral Home from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. Mr. Charlton passed away on April 30, 2011 at Claxton Hepburn Medical Center.
Mr. Charlton is survived by his wife, Willie Mae; nine children, Ellsworth Charlton Jr. of Buffalo, Rose Bouchey and her husband Steve of Hammond, Ernestine Murphy of Morristown, Cheryl Bouchey and her companion Dean Miller of Ogdensburg, Glenda Jones and her husband David of Ogdensburg, Samuel Charlton and his wife Kelly of Heuvelton, Donna Hicks and her husband Robert of Texas, Brian Charlton and his wife Patricia of Morristown and Krista Charlton of Texas; seventeen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brothers and sisters, Vivian, Eugene, Audrey, Webster, Herschel and Rosina.
Mr. Charlton was born on March 8, 1917 in Depeyster, the son of Loftus and Ernestine Massey Charlton. He graduated from Hermon DeKalb School in 1937, later attending the University of Maryland. He served in the US Air force during World War II and later reenlisted into the Air force, retiring after thirty years in 1964. Mr. Charlton was a fighter pilot, having flown in 108 combat missions as Element Leader. He married Willie Mae Collyer on January 20, 1959 in San Antonio, Texas. He worked for George Hall Corporation where he was a truck driver, later working for the St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center.
Mr. Charlton enjoyed fishing, gardening and was proud to be a Republican.
