Ellen Crawn, 81, passed away Friday, December 23, 2011 at Canton-Potsdam Hospital. Ellen was born in Branchville, NJ on January 23, 1930, the daughter of Elmer and Bertha Hazen Spangenburg, and she attended school in New Jersey. Ellen married Richard Crawn, and the couple operated a dairy farm on the McAllister Road in Gouverneur. Ellen also worked as a housekeeper and cook at several local restaurants. She enjoyed reading, travelling, and spending time in the outdoors.
Ellen is survived by her husband, Richard; a son, Allan Crawn of Gouverneur; two daughters, Patricia Walrath of Gouverneur and Vernie Arquitt of Hermon; nine grandchildren; and several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents; a son, Richard “Farmer” Crawn; a grandson, Thomas Crawn; four brothers, Buck, Earl, Elmer “Jay”, and William Spangenburg; and a sister, Gale Spangenburg.
There are no funeral services. Arrangements are with the Green Funeral Home, Gouverneur. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley.
