Elizabeth Leah Honsky, 84, formerly of Edwards and Gouverneur
Elizabeth Leah Honsky was born in Edwards, New York October 7, 1927, the second daughter of Roland Mark Spaulding and Kathleen McFerran Spaulding. She passed away of natural causes December 22, 2011 at her son's home in Missoula, Montana.
She married John Kuzma Honsky on March 13, 1947 at Sacred Heart Catholic rectory in Edwards with the Rev. P. Leon Segault presiding and Ruth Ayers and Millard "Cass" Cassidy as witnesses. John Honsky retired as yard superintendent from St. Joe Minerals and as Justice of the Peace for the Town of Edwards.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, John, March 10, 1989 and by her brother-in-law, Harold Ayers.
Elizabeth attended Edwards elementary and high school, graduating in 1945. She then attended Canton Technical College. Elizabeth worked as a waitress at the Blue Mountain Lake Resort in the Adirondacks, department store sales girl in Schenectady, a homemaker, Cub Scout leader, mother, grandmother and aunt. She enjoyed bowling and traveling to Myrtle Beach, S.C. with her husband in their retirement.
Elizabeth grew up in Edwards where her family ran a small farm and her father was a mine electrician for the St. Joseph Lead Co. As a newlywed, she moved with her husband John to Balmat. The family later returned to Edwards until John’s death. Following her husband's death, she moved to Gouverneur, New York and resided at Cambray Court. She was a member of the Marble City Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. In 2004 she moved to Montana to be close to her children, grand children and great-grand children and settled into life and friendships at the Missoula Manor.
Elizabeth is survived by her sister, Ruth Ayers of Gouverneur, New York; children, John (Susan) Honsky of Missoula, Montana, Christopher Honsky (Veronique Brown) of Dannemora, New York, and daughter, Mary Beth Honsky of Missoula, Montana; grandchildren, Michelle (Scott) Wallis, Leah (Mark Champoux)Honsky and family, Christoffer (Dawn)Honsky and family, Jesse(Ben Faller) Honsky, Marla (Chuck) Stanton and Abigail Honsky; seven nieces and nephews and extended family back east.
Arrangements will be made by Garden City Funeral Home of Missoula and French Funeral Home of Gouverneur. By her wishes, there will be no visitation or service. A private interment will be held at Fairview Cemetery, Edwards, NY at a later date.
Memorials in her name can be made to Partnership Hospice of Missoula or to the Missoula Manor Endowment Fund.
