Funeral services for Elizabeth “Betty” McEwen age 81 of Clark Street in Ogdensburg will be held on Saturday, Jan 15, at 1 p.m. at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home with Rev. Laurena Wickham-Will officiating. Burial will be in the spring at White Church Cemetery in Lisbon.
Calling hours will be held also on January 15, from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. Mrs. McEwen died Wednesday evening, January 5, as a result of a fall at her home.
Surviving are two sons, Lloyd McEwen of Oswego, and Mark McEwen & his wife Jan of Herndon, VA; a daughter, Carol Sovie and her husband Richard of Waddington; a sister, Sandy Bouchard and her husband James of Massena; a brother-in-law, RJ Vernsey of Ogdensburg; grandchildren Todd Molz, Ross, and Daniel and Kerri McEwen; great-grandchildren Emma, Charlie and Oliver Molz along with nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mrs. McEwen was predeceased by her husband Bert; a daughter Sue McEwen; and a sister Jackie Vernsey.
She was born on October 20, 1929, in Ogdensburg, a daughter of the late Edmond and Helen (Marshall) Sargent.
She graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in 1947 as the Salutatorian of her class. She married Wilbert H. McEwen on Jan 4, 1948, at the Ogdensburg Baptist Parsonage with Rev. Kelly as the celebrant.
Betty was a homemaker and bookkeeper for her husband’s plumbing and heating business for several years, and was a former Deacon and faithful member of the United Presbyterian Church in Ogdensburg.
She enjoyed her volunteer work at St. Vincent DePaul, reading, exercise class, feeding stray animals and spending time with others.
