Elizabeth “Betty” J. Burns, 75, of United Helpers Nursing Home, passed away on Thursday, February 24, at Claxton Hepburn Medical Center. Arrangements are with Frary Funeral Home.

Mrs. Burns is survived by one daughter, Denise J. Gates of Canton; three grandchildren, Steven and Dawn Ashley of Canton, Jared Ashley of North Lawrence and Meghan Wilson of Canton; and seven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents and several brothers and sisters.

Mrs. Burns was born on November 24, 1935, in Ogdensburg, the daughter of Sante and Mary Petrilli Ardaine. She graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in 1954. Mrs. Burns worked for United Helpers Nursing Home as a Certified Nurse’s Aide until she retired in 1995.

Mrs. Burns enjoyed knitting, crafting and playing cards.

Donations may be made in her memory to Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley or an animal shelter of one’s choice.
