A "Celebration of Life” service for Elizabeth "Beth" H. Sommerfield, 65, will be held Thursday, December 29, 5 p.m. at the Phillips Memorial Home, Massena, with Rev. Judith VanKennen officiating. Family and friends are welcome to come and share remembrances of Beth's life. Calling hours will be from 3 p.m until the time of services.
There will be a committal service at St. Michael’s Church Memorial Garden, Geneseo, at a later date.
Beth died peacefully Wednesday afternoon at her home surrounded by her family and Hospice. Beth had been in ill health since June.
Beth is survived by Bill her husband of 40 years; sisters, Cathy and husband Wayne Judskins of Batavia, and Susan Migliori of Dansville; and brother-in-law Robert Ellison, Sr. Livonia; and also dear and very close nieces and nephews.
Beth was preceded in death by a sister Mary E. Ellison.
Beth was born March 11,1946, in Rochester the daughter of the late Walter and Mary (Birge) Hubbell. She graduated from Geneseo High School in 1964. Beth earned in BS in Library Science at SUNY Geneseo as well a graduate work there and at SUNY Potsdam.
Beth married the love of her life William G. Sommerfield July 3, 1971 at St. John's Episcopal Church with Rev. George Easter presiding.
Beth was employed for 29 years at the J.W. Junior High as a librarian. Beth enjoyed reading, gardening, collecting antiques, traveling back roads and one of her favorite places visiting the Adirondack Interpretive Center at Paul Smiths. She had a great devotion to the preservation of historical homes and barns. Beth was an avid gardener and reader.
At the family's request memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley or the VA Warren Memorial Library Fund.
