Edith Wiegandt, 68, of the Town of DeKalb, died September 11, 2010, at Canton-Potsdam Hospital. Allen-Denesha Funeral Home, DeKalb Junction, is in care of her arrangements. Calling hours will be Wednesday, September 15, 1 - 3 p.m., the funeral service to follow at 3 p.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Reginald Curtis, pastor of Grace Covenant Church, Ogdensburg, will be officiating. Burial will be in Old DeKalb Cemetery, at a later date .
Edith is survived by her husband, Leonhard; a son, Leonhard Wiegandt Jr., DeKalb; two daughters, Helga (Stephen) Ross and Gudrun (Michael) Johnson of Heuvelton; grandchildren, Eric, Andrew and Emilie Ross, Dedrick, Gabrielle and Alyssa Johnson, Kursten and Landon Wiegandt, Dawson Marino, Lyndsie and Lauren Mason; a brother Hans – Gerd Swaboda and a sister, Anna Schwabe both of Germany and several nieces and nephews.
She was born January 8, 1942, in Oldenburg, Germany, the child of Hans and Gerda Lutje Swaboda. She married Leonhard Wiegandt on March 25, 1961 in New Jersey. She and her husband moved to the area in 1980, when they bought a dairy farm, which they farmed together for 30 years. Contributions can be made the Canton Potsdam Hospital Foundation.
