Edith G. Carlin, age 79, of Russell, passed away on Saturday, September 4, 2010 in the Canton-Potsdam Hospital surrounded by her family.
Calling hours will be a French Funeral Home, Edwards on Monday from 6 until 8 p.m. Her funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in the South Russell Cemetery with Rev. William Hart officiating.
Edith was born on August 29, 1931 in Pierrepont. She was the daughter of the late Leland and Adelaide (Bice) Davis. She attended school in Pierrepont and Knox Memorial High School in Russell.
Edith married Kenneth Vernon Carlin on July 9, 1949 at the Russell Methodist Church officiated by Rev. Geoffrey Pilbeam. The couple lived all of their lives in Russell and enjoyed camping and fishing together. Mr. Carlin passed away on May 19, 1975.
Mrs. Carlin worked as a kitchen aid for Barlow’s Nursing Home and then for United Helpers Nursing Home in Canton for many years. She used to enjoy reading, tending to her gardens, and riding through the woods on the tractor.
Her survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Terry (Sandra) Daniels of Degrasse, Mrs. Thomas (Geraldine) Miner of Pennsylvania, Ms. Carol Sayer and her fiancée, Frank Brown of Pierrepont, Mrs. Steve (Kimberly) Gollinger of Russell; her sister, Helen Clary of Russell; her aunt, Vivian Snell of Parishville; and three sisters-in-law, Janet, Arlene, and Jackie Davis. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren with one more on the way.
Edith is predeceased by her husband, Kenneth; a daughter, Edith Lee Carlin who died in infancy; a sister and brother-in-law, Deanna and Vernon Forbes; and her three brothers, Charles, Martin, and Laverne “Pete” Davis.
