Earl A. Jenkinson, age 91, of Dickinson Center passed away Sunday, February 19, 2012 at his home, after a courageous battle with cancer. Earl, better known as Shorty, was born June 13, 1920 in Olivia, Minnesota, he was the son of Howard and Inez Clause Jenkinson.
Earl served his country in the United States Army during WW11, in the European Theater.
After sustaining injuries and being hospitalized, he was discharged. He received the European-African-Middle Eastern service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and WW11 Victory Medal. During the years that followed he was a member of the VFW in Malone.
Earl served as Postmaster in Nicholville for 41 years retiring in 1989. He also ran a hardware store in the same building during most of that time.
Earl enjoyed tending to his sheep farm, his fulltime hobby. An active and respected member of the community, Earl was a charter member of the Nicholville Fire Department, serving 60 years, a Masonic Lodge member and a leader in the Bay Scouts.
He loved playing cards and checkers, watching baseball and engaging in conversation.
In 1947 Earl was united in marriage to Joan Vining at their home in Dickinson Center.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Joan Jenkinson of Dickinson Center; two daughters and sons in law, Rebecca and Robert Hubert of Bedford, New Hampshire and Joanna and James Baker of Dickinson Center; nine grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and many other family and friends.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by one son, Jerry Jenkinson and his siblings.
Friends and family are invited to a spring graveside service at Fairview Cemetery in Dickinson Center, which will be announced prior to the service in the spring.
