Funeral services for Earl G. Brown, Jr., 88, of 1457 State Hwy 68, will be held on Thursday, December 29, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at the Lawrence Funeral Home, Canton with Rev. Robert Schirmer officiating. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Crary Mills Cemetery.
Mr. Brown died Christmas Day at the Whiteford Home in Russell, where he was a resident since Dec. 23rd.
Surviving are his wife, Flora; two sons, Tom and wife Lineth of Lakewood, Washington and Paul of Edwards; and nine grandchildren, Jeff and companion Sandy, David and wife Jullianne, Sam and companion Jennifer and Collin and Tom, Jr., Zulain, Heather, Kimberly and Rose.
He was predeceased by three sisters, Betty Douglas, Mildred Spadafore and Gertrude Brown.
He was born Jan 10, 1923 in Utica, the son of Earl, Sr. and Veiva (Flack) Brown. He graduated Canton High School in 1941 and then enlisted in the US Army, where he served as Sgt. In the Pacific Theatre during WWII. On May 30, 1969 he married Flora M. Coit in Graton.
Earl started working the Sunshine Store on Main Street in Canton which was owned by his father. He later worked the “diner circuit” in the Cortland area as a licensed Chef until moving back to Canton in 1966 at which time he took a custodial position with Canton Central School until he retired in 1986.
Earl was a Life Member of the VFW, Post 1231, Canton and enjoyed hunting, fishing and watching wildlife at his home.
