Dorothy H. Kerwin, 83, passed away Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at the Kinney Nursing Home, Gouverneur. The funeral service will be Friday, April 27th at 11:00 a.m. at the Green Funeral Home, Gouverneur with Judy Sibley, lay minister officiating and burial in East Riverside Cemetery, Gouverneur. Calling hours are Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Dorothy was born August 12, 1928, the daughter of Herbert and Mable Barber Cyrus and attended schools in Richville and Gouverneur. Dorothy worked for Diamond International at the paper mill in Natural Dam for over forty years. She also operated a general store on Depot Street until the late 1970’s, worked in housekeeping at the E.J. Noble Hospital, and assisted at the St. Lawrence County Fair for many years. She had enjoyed her cats, traveling, and fishing. She was known as a generous and caring lady, helping those in need of help. She was married to Robert E. Kerwin, and he passed away in 1980.
Dorothy is survived by sons, Robert “Butch” Kerwin Jr., Kim Kerwin, and Randy Kerwin, all of Gouverneur; daughters Wilna Nolle of Gastonia, NC, Kathleen Harrington of Weedsport and Bonniebell McEathron of Gouverneur; several grandchildren and several great grandchildren; a brother, Carl Cyrus of Florida; and nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Jo-Ann Woodrow; two brothers, Raymond and Earl Cyrus; and her companion of many years, Pete Cutrie.
