A Mass of Christian Burial service for 91-year-old Mrs. Dorothy A. "Dort" Nash will be held Saturday, January 1, 2011 at noon at St. Mary’s Church, Canton, with Father Douglas Lucia officiating. An urn burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery in the spring of 2011. There will be no calling hours.
Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Susan Dean of Indianapolis, Ind., Ms. Dorothy Nash of Bedford, Ind., Mrs. Charles (Joan) Belgarde of Bloomington, Ind., and Ms. Lynne Jones of Canton; 12 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Dorothy was predeceased by her late husband, John Nash; two sisters, Eileen Prosper and Verona Brais; and one brother, Lyle Finnegan.
Dorothy was born in Raymondville on January 11, 1919, the daughter of Floyd and Emma (Cardinal) Finnegan.
After graduating from high school she completed her RN degree at Rockland State School of Nursing in Rockland.
In 1942, she married John C. Nash. Mr. Nash died in January 1974.
Dorothy was employed for many years at Massena Memorial Hospital.
She was a resident of Maplewood Campus of United Helpers in Canton, and formerly of Colton Simmonds Square Apartments.
She enjoyed bowling, crocheting, cooking puzzle construction and spending time with her grandchildren.
Arrangements are with the Seymour Funeral Home in Potsdam. If friends desire, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to St. Mary’s Church in Canton, or to The American Cancer Society.
