Donald F. Countryman, 73, passed away Thursday, July 8, 2010 at his home under the care of his family and Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley.
Donald was born July 31, 1936 in Theresa, the son of Pauline Countryman, and he attended Theresa schools. He married Nancy Kibling on October 14, 1960 in Theresa. Nancy passed away December 18, 2009.
Donald had worked for P.L. Pickert & Sons as a milk truck driver, for Agway Feed Company in Antwerp, Jefferson County Highway Department, and he retired from the Town of Antwerp.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing bingo, watching NASCAR, and spending time with his grandchildren, great grandchildren, and his cat “Buddy”.
Donald is survived by two sons, Michael P. and Kelly Countryman of Antwerp, Donald E. Countryman and his fiancé Carrie McPherson; two daughters, Barbara J. and Michael Trahan of Harrisville, Molly J. Countryman and her companion James Cook of Theresa; three brothers, Paul “Smokey” White of Oxbow, Albert “Baldy” White of Theresa, Noel “Cookie” Cook of Antwerp; his aunt, Georgianna “Grandma White” Countryman of Antwerp who helped raise him; several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by several great-grandchildren and grandchildren, three of which he and his wife raised, David, Amanda, and Jeremy Prashaw. Donald is predeceased by his wife Nancy, mother Pauline “Peannie” Davis, and a great-granddaughter Kelsey Jenkins.
Calling hours will be Monday, July 12th from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. with the funeral to follow at 1 p.m. at the Green Funeral Home, Gouverneur with Rev. Robert Schirmer, chaplain of St. Lawrence Valley Hospice officiating and burial in Kinne Cemetery, Antwerp. A luncheon will follow at the Oxbow Vol. Fire hall.
