Mr. Donald E. Babcock, 81, 43 Brookview Drive, passed away Tuesday evening, August 30, 2011 at United Helpers Nursing Home, Ogdensburg.
Donald was born on April 16, 1930 in Watertown, the son of the late Emerson and Irene Fleming Babcock. He graduated Massena High School. On June 30, 1984, he married Joan Scott Wilkins in Waddington with Rev. B.J. Norris, officiating; a previous marriage ended in divorce.
Donald worked at Alcoa as a metal tester, retiring in 1989 after 40 years of service. Donald was a creative craftsman who loved to build, whether it was boats, railroad cars, flying aircrafts, or guns, he truly loved to build. He also enjoyed carving, metal working, and just being in his shop. Don lived his life to the fullest doing many activities including riding his motorcycle and power parasailing.
Donald is survived by his wife, Joan; six children, Betty De Meurers of Kelso, WA, Nancy and Peter McLaughlin of Massena, David and Janice Babcock of Norwood, Duncan and Angela Babcock of Connecticut, Deanna Halverson of Norfolk and Peter and Donna Babcock of Norfolk; five step children, John and Chung Wilkins of Converse, TX, Steven Wilkins of Fredericksburg, VA, Heather and James McDonald of Massena, Kevin and Bridget Wilkins of Fredericksburg, VA, and Garth and Kimberly Wilkins of Maiden, NC; eleven grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren, three great grandchildren and a step great grandchild; and his brother, Richard and Peggy Babcock of Massena.
He was predeceased a daughter, Mary A. Hitsman on February 28, 1993.
A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.
