Funeral services for Donald C. Hicks, age 81, a resident of the St. Joseph’s Nursing Home and formerly of the Five Mile Line Road Ogdensburg will be held privately at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home with Rev. Michael Boehm officiating. Burial will follow the service at White Church Cemetery in Lisbon with full military honors.
There will be no public calling hours. Mr. Hicks died Sunday (October 2, 2011) at the nursing home. Arrangements are with the Fox & Murray Funeral Home.
Surviving is his wife June; a son, David Hicks and his wife Shirley of Waterbury, CT; two daughters, Cheryl Chiucarello of Watertown, CT, and Cathy Rusgrove and her husband Mark of Lisbon; seven grandchildren Tina, David, Doug, Kristen, Matthew, Kate and Corey; several great-grandchildren; four sisters, Blanche Perkins, Beverly Goolden and her husband Ted both of Ogdensburg, Kathleen Vines of Idaho and Gail Hutton of Ogdensburg.
Two sisters, Esther Mitchell and Audrey Foote; and a brother, James Hicks predeceased him.
Donald was born on March 23, 1930 in Brassie Corners, a son of the late William and Hilda (Corrice) Hicks. He attended Lisbon Central School for his education and enlisted in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict. He then married June A. Todd on December 13, 1952. The couple live in Connecticut where he worked as a tool & die maker for Allen Manufacturing and Jacobs Manufacturing for 39 years, retiring in 1990. In 1991 the couple relocated to the North Country where he was a member of the Ogdensburg Senior Citizens Club, the First Congregational Church of Lisbon and a member of the Men’s Horseshoe League. He enjoyed golfing, woodworking, hunting, gardening, playing horseshoes and spending time with his family.
