Mrs. Dixie Lee Durant, 61, 5 Regan Road, passed away unexpectedly, Friday, September 9, 2011 in the emergency room at Alice Hyde Medical Center, Malone.
Dixie was born on January 27, 1950, in Bombay, the daughter of the late Roy and Orva Cruickshank French. She graduated in 1969 from Salmon River Central School in Fort Covington. On April 7, 1973, she married Louis J. Durant in Bombay with Town Justice Richards, officiating.
She worked at Tru Stitch in Malone, for many years as a sewing machine operator. Dixie was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. She enjoyed taking pictures, listening to old country music and loved to dance. She loved visiting at Saranac Lake and traveling. She loved spending time with all of her family, especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by her loving husband, Louis; two daughters, Vicky Durant of Bombay, and April and Paul Ward of Saranac Lake; a son, Louis K. and Alicia Durant of Bombay; two grandchildren, Zoey and Kathryn Durant; three sisters, Jany and William Plumb, Laura and Edward Cartier, and Nora Elmer, all of Bombay; and many nieces and nephews.
Dixie was predeceased by her sister, Rita Savage; and a brother, Richard French.
Friends may call at the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena, Friday, September 16, 2011 from 1 - 3 p.m., where a memorial service will be at 3 p.m., with Rev. Martin Cline, officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Bombay.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alice Hyde Dialysis Unit in Malone.
