Mrs. Diane M. Phippen, 71, of 1600 Daytona Road, Deland, Florida and formerly of Norwood, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday afternoon, February 16, 2012.
Diane was born September 9, 1940 in Potsdam, the daughter of the late Robert E. and Winona G. “Nonie” Carpenter White. She attended and graduated from Massena Central Schools. She married Herbert L. Phippen on January 6, 1979 in Norwood; previous marriages ended in divorce.
Diane worked as a server in various local restaurants, including Chris Fay’s, The Townhouse, and the Dew Drop. Diane was an avid reader and enjoyed flower gardening.
She is survived by her husband, Herbert; her five daughters, Stephanie and Eric Matott of Potsdam, Sherry Marie and Steven Bartlett of Norwood, Shelley and Darryl Kolanko of Norwood, Marci and Jeff Comstock of Williamstown and Karis and Greg Munson of Norfolk; her son, Steven and Kimberly Phippen of Norwood; 12 grandchildren and two great grandchildren; three sisters, Sherry LeClerc of Potsdam, Vonnie Reil of Massena and Nancy and Wayne Green of Potsdam; her brother, Robert Jr. and Trudy White of Potsdam; her aunt, Iona Ames of Norwood; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was predeceased by her parents; her son, Craig Phippen on June 27, 1984; and her sister, Margaret Matheny on May 17, 2007.
Friends may call Friday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Garner Funeral Home, Potsdam, where a celebration of her life will be held Saturday 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Lee Sweeney, officiating. Burial will be in Southville Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
