Derek L. Bovay, 39, formerly of NYC and Hermon, passed away Sunday, January 2, 2011 at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in NYC.
Derek was born December 20, 1971 in Canton, the son of Ronald and Gail Aldridge Bovay. He graduated from Hermon-DeKalb Central School in 1990 and from the Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC in 1994. Derek was a director and designer, involved with planning, for the Aveda Corporation in NYC and Minneapolis, MN.
He enjoyed spending time with his pets Trooper and Sammy, traveling, camping at the family cottage on Boyd Pond with his nieces and nephews, and was an accomplished skier and snowboarder.
Derek is survived by his father, Ronald of Hermon; a brother, Robert and his wife Nancy of Hermon; two nieces, Hannah Kraft of Utica, and Hilary Kraft of Barneveld; six nephews, Nick and Beth Bovay of Pittsburgh, PA, Mathew Bovay of Texas, Andrew Bovay of Pittsburgh, PA, Anthony Bovay of North Carolina, Seth Kraft of Barneveld, and Jacob Kraft of Phoenix, AZ; and three great nephews, and a great niece.
He was predeceased by his mother, Gail; and his sister, Cheryl Kraft.
Calling hours will be Sunday, January 16th from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. with a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. at the Green Funeral Home, Hermon with Rev. Gregory Bailey, pastor of the Trinity Episcopal Church, Gouverneur officiating and burial in Hermon Cemetery.
