Denver Ray Littlebrant, 88, Fowler

Denver Ray Littlebrant, 88, passed away with his family at his side on Sunday, December 4, 2011 at E. J. Noble Hospital in Gouverneur.

The funeral service will be on Thursday, December 8th at 11:00 a.m. at the Green Funeral Home, Gouverneur with Rev. Howard Maxson, pastor of Fowler Baptist Church officiating and burial in Riverside Cemetery, Gouverneur. Calling hours are Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Thursday 10:00 to 11:00 a.m.

Denver was born June 26, 1923 on the family farm on the Little Brant Road in Gouverneur, the son of Charles and Emily Britton Littebrant. Denver had attended Gouverneur schools and worked on the family farm. He also was employed at Benson Mines as a uke dump truck driver until entering the service. Denver served overseas in the United States Army during WW II and had volunteered for the invasion of Japan, previous to the dropping of the atomic bombs on Nagasaki and Hiroshima.

Upon his honorable discharge from the Army, Denver was a self employed butcher, working on the 4th generation family farm in Fowler. Denver was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, and trapping. He was known as a wheeler and dealer, trading guns, furs and horses amongst other commodities, and he collected Buck and Case knives. Most important, Denver enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He was married to Jennie McEathron and Barbara Cross.

Denver is survived by his six children, Donna Morey of Antioch, TN, Denver R. “DR” Littlebrant Jr. and his wife Debbie of Fowler, Pamela and Marty Owen of Elkton, KY, Terri and William Whitaker of Balmat, Michael and Sandy Littlebrant of Fowler, and Michelle and Joey Durham of Fine; and 21 grandchildren Melissa, Michael, Marcie, Allison, Ronald, Todd, Denver III, Jessica, Emily, Meagan, Jennifer, Casey, Carrie, Scott, Michael Jr., Cassandra, Jenni, Joeli, Serene, Taylor, Joe III and his 15 great grandchildren Sidney, Evan, Hailey, Garrett, Jackson, Brianna, Olivia, Nevaeh, Kyra, Dakota, Damien, KJ, Robert Michael, Chance, and Annelise.

He was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Emily; a daughter, Sallie Morrison; brothers Everett and Roy Littebrant; sisters Bertha DeLair, Mamie Clark, and Dorothy Fiske; and a son-in-law, Francis Morey.
