Mrs. Dawn B. MacKinnon, 73, of 152 Liberty Ave, passed away on Wednesday evening, June 29, 2011 at Massena Memorial Hospital, after a brief illness.
Dawn was born May 13, 1938 in Chazy, the daughter of Clark and Hazel Stiles Payne. She attended and graduated from Massena High School. Dawn first married Clarke MacKinnon, who predeceased her on January 26, 1988. She later married Meredith E. Bogett, Sr. at the Pilgrim Holiness Church with Rev. Dwight Rine, officiating.
Dawn was a library clerk at SUNY Potsdam, retiring in 1997 after 25 years of service. She was an active member of the Pilgrim Holiness Church and enjoyed watching television, cooking, and bowling when she was younger. Dawn also enjoyed her computer, most recently connecting with friends and family on Facebook. She was also an avid reader and loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Dawn is survived by her husband, Meredith “Mert” Bogett, Sr; her five children, Shelly and Robert Batten of Galveston, TX, William Charles and Miriam MacKinnon of Winthrop, Scott Gordon MacKinnon of Georgia, Pamela and Lauren Lewis of West Stockholm and Wendy and Donald Straight of Brasher Falls; first husband’s children, Greg and Judy MacKinnon of Massena, Jan Cunningham and Jon Burke of Norfolk, and her husband, Meredith’s children, Meredith Bogett, Jr. of Massena, Mary Lou and Andrew LaPointe of Massena, Louise Bogett of Massachusetts, Melody and Zig Maco of Syracuse and James and Richard Bogett of Syracuse; 16 grandchildren, seven step grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and eight step great grandchildren; her sister, Sandra Scharett of Irving, TX; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a grandson, Brett Allen Mitchell; her sister, Carol Bogett; and her brothers, Donald and Ronald Payne.
Friends may call at the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena; Friday (today) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday 10:00 a.m. at the Pilgrim Holiness Church with Pastor Timothy Montgomery, officiating. Burial will follow the service in Fairview Cemetery, Brasher Falls.
