Graveside services for Darwin R. Wallace, age 89, a resident of the St. Joseph’s Nursing Home, formerly of the Hardscrabble Road, Town of Lisbon, will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Flackville Cemetery with Rev. Walter Smith, officiating. Mr. Wallace died Saturday (October 8, 2011) at the nursing home where he had been a resident for the past month. There will be no public calling hours. Arrangements are with the Fox & Murray Funeral Home.
Surviving are four sons, David of Canton, Gary of Alexandria, VA, Steven and his wife, Barbara of Heuvelton, and Michael of Danbury, CT; two daughters, Mrs. Gerald (Elizabeth) Kuhl of Croghan, and Michele James of Canton; two grandchildren, Mrs. Donald (Lori-Ann) Harvey of Milford, and James Wallace and his wife Kristen of Heuvelton; a great-grandson Nicholas Wallace; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Predeceasing him were his wife, Rosemary; and a sister, Doris Merkley.
Mr. Wallace was born on December 11, 1921 in the town of Lisbon, a son of the late
Ralph and Rena (Fuller) Wallace. He attended Heuvelton schools and married Rosemary Stoffel on October 12, 1948 at the Notre Dame Church, Ogdensburg. For over 60 years, he and his family operated the Wallace Homestead farm, which dates back to the 1800’s.
He was a member of the former Heuvelton Grange, The Agway Co-Op and the Flackville Cemetery Board. He enjoyed reading, hunting, fishing, crossword puzzles, going for automobile rides and spending time with his family.
