Dakota L. “Cobra” Benedict, 22, Akwesasne

Mr. Dakota L. “Cobra” Benedict, 22, 3 Second Street, passed away Wednesday, October 26, 2011 from injuries he received in a motor vehicle accident on the North Road in Akwesasne.

Dakota was born on December 24, 1988 in Cornwall, Ontario, the son of Michelle Benedict. He graduated from Salmon River Central School.

Dakota worked as a laborer for local construction companies. He enjoyed basketball, lacrosse, and swimming and listening to music. Dakota was a very fun loving guy, who always was hanging out with his many friends.

Dakota is survived by his mother and step father, Michelle and Joseph Sawatis; maternal grandparents, Lucy Benedict and Gordon Beaubien; a brother, Braxton Benedict; his companion, Gunnie Davey; his aunts and uncles, Brad Benedict and family, Jody and Ed Gray and family, Russell Beaubien and family, April Beaubien and Jay Sunday and family, and Shawn and Mike Laughing and family; and many great aunts, uncles and cousins.

Dakota was predeceased by his “Doda”; and his aunt, Betty Lazore.

Friends may call the home of his aunt, Katherine Square, St. Regis, Quebec, beginning 3:00 p.m. Thursday until 12:00 noon on Saturday. A mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the St. Regis Catholic Church with Rev. Jerome Pastores, celebrating. Burial will follow at the St. Lawrence Cemetery in St. Regis Quebec.
