Cyril “Mike” Filiatrault”, 87, passed away December 6th, 2011 at the E.J. Noble Hospital, Gouverneur, after a brief illness. He was born December 4th, 1924 in the township of Sweden, Brockport ,NY. He was the son of the late Cyril Joseph Filiatrault and the late Gladys Dashnaw Filiatrault.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Daphne Brown Filiatrault, residing in Gouverneur; his two sons, and his three daughters and their spouses, Jerry(Sally) Filiatrault, Canton, Phyllis(Terry) Myers, Gouverneur, Beverly (Raymond) Delli-Carpini, Norristown,PA, Brenda ( David) Broadbent, Massena, and Bradley (Olla) Filiatrault, Canton; 16 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren; two brothers, Kenneth Filiatrault, Gouverneur and Ivan Filiatrault, Antwerp; one sister, Genevieve Mitchell, Antwerp; and many nieces and nephews
He was predeceased by his parents; three sisters, Vida Aldrich Doherty , Ruth Johnson, and Vivian Culbertson Cook; and a brother, Wallace Filiatrault.
He lived an active and rewarding life. His family was his first priority and his greatest source of enjoyment. He will be remembered as a man who loved to fix anything that he could and help any person that he could help. He was quick to solve a puzzle, fix a broken car or master any new gadget that came along. His smile was abundant, his humor quick and his outlook on life always positive. He will be remembered as a devoted and loving Husband, Father, Grandfather and good friend.
His private and professional life took him many places. Early in his life worked for Kraft Foods and also at the Natural Dam paper mill. He also was rural mail carrier for many years. He owned and operated a dairy farm for many years on the Lockie Rd., Gouverneur. During those years he was active in Dairymen Cooperatives including being on the board of directors for Eastern Milk Producers; he was a founding member of the Allied Federated Milk Cooperative and a longtime member and secretary/treasurer for the Gouverneur Dairymen Cooperative. He served many other organizations.
After retiring from farming he became the Director of Quality Control for Allied Federated Milk Cooperative, Canton, NY and later worked for Agri-Mark Inc. He continued to work into his eighties and traveled around the country calibrating bulk tanks and working with farmers. He enjoyed it and loved to see people and be busy.
He enjoyed fishing, bowling, horseshoes, wrestling with his grandchildren and playing almost any game, especially cards.
He was a member of the Gouverneur United Methodist Church, the Gouverneur Elks Lodge and was a longtime member and former master of the Gouverneur Masonic Lodge 217 of F&M.
Calling hours will be at French Funeral Home, Gouverneur on Thursday from 1-3 and 6-8 p.m. with a Masonic Lodge service at 7:30 p.m. His funeral service will be on Friday, December 9, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Brian Drury officiating. Burial will follow in the Hailesboro Cemetery.
