Clifford A. Coffey, 80, of Oswegatchie, passed away on Thursday, July 8, 2010 at Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse.
Calling hours will be at French Family Funeral Home in Star Lake on Sunday, from 6 until 8 p.m. His funeral service will be at the funeral home on Monday, July 12, 2010 at 10 a.m. with Rev. Lee Sweeney officiating. Burial will follow in the Oswegatchie Cemetery.
Clifford was born on October 3, 1929 in Russell to the late Forrest and Winnibell (McCollum) Coffey. He attended the Beech Grove School and graduated from Knox Memorial High School in Russell. Mr. Coffey was then educated at Canton ATC in the field of refrigeration and air conditioning.
Clifford married Katharine I. Dodds on July 31, 1950 at her parents’ home in Russell with Rev. George Pilbeam officiating. Katharine passed away on July 16, 2004.
Mr. Coffey owned and operated 4-C Ice distributors and Northway Refrigeration. He was also the maintenance manager for Newton Falls Paper Mill for several decades. Clifford was very passionate about golf and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and reading.
His survivors include his son, Richard A. Coffey of Watertown; and two daughters and a son-in-law, Julie A. and Michael Rider of Schenectady, and Shirley M. Heath of Watertown. He is also survived by six grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Clifford was predeceased by a daughter, Mary L. Coffey, and his brother, Milford A. Coffey.
