Claude L. Richards, age 73, of Brushton passed away on Sunday, June 12, 2011 at his home surrounded by family. He was born on February 2, 1938 in Malone, the son of the late Claude and Florence Richards. He attended schools in Dickinson. He met his wife Leona Durgan in 1954 and then they married in South Bombay in 1968 by Rev. Phelps.
Claude worked for George Swanston Farms in Burke for several years and then ran his own dairy farm until retirement. He loved to work in his gardens and he was very proud to be a Dairy Farmer. When Claude wasn’t farming, he always cherished the times he spent with family and especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and James Helms of Moira, and Tina and Lee Jeror of Brushton; a son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Nancy Richards of Brushton; eight grandchildren, six great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; and a brother and sister-in-law, Al and Jean Richards of Canton.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Leona in September 2008; a brother, Alden Richards; and a sister, Althea Richards.
Friends are invited to call at the Flint Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 15, 2011 from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 16, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at the Flint Funeral Home, Moira, with Rev. Christopher Looby officiating. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Brushton.
