Christopher M. Rousell, 48, Massena

Mr. Christopher Mark Rousell, 48, of 49 Highland Avenue, unexpectedly passed away on Monday evening, February 20, 2012 in the emergency room at Massena Memorial Hospital.

Chris was born September 26, 1963 in Massena, the son of Lawrence Jr. and Judith Roy Rousell. He graduated from Massena High School in 1981 and later graduated from both Canton ATC and Mater Dei College. In 1998, he received his Bachelor Degree from Potsdam State. On August 18, 2001, he married Gidget Rafus at the Massena Country Club with Rev. George Rafus, Jr., officiating.

Chris was currently working as a habitalization aide for the handicapped with the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe. He had previously worked as an outreach counselor in Burlington, Vermont, has a mental health counselor with the Champlain Vocational Services and with Cerebral Palsy in Potsdam. Chris was an active volunteer with Big Brothers in Massena and also with the Special Olympics. He enjoyed hiking in the Adirondacks and truly loved nature. Chris loved music and enjoyed listening to the Rolling Stones and any blues music. Chris was a gentle man, who accepted people for who they were and saw the best in everyone.

Chris is survived by his loving wife, Gidget; his parent, Larry and Judy of Colton; his two brothers and sisters-in-law, Jeffrey and Heather Rousell of Colton and Lawrence III “Sonny” and Cathy Rousell of Cazenovia; his nieces and nephews, Grace, Madeline, Claire, Noah, Wilson, Hannah, Emma, and Jayvious; his paternal grandfather, Lawrence Rousell, Sr. of Malone; his aunts and uncles, Roger and Cindy Rousell of Malone, Linda Ashley of Massena and Susan and Mike Shea of Constable; and his beloved cats, Shaman and Kerovac.

He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Ruthie Rafus of Calcium; his wife’s siblings, Eboni Rafus, Javian Rafus, and Nicholas Rafus; and many loving aunts, uncles, and many loving cousins.

Friends may call Friday 5-8 p.m. at the Donaldson Funeral Home, 100 N. Main Street, Massena, where funeral services will be held Saturday 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Jack L. Downs, officiating.

Memorial Contributions may be made in his memory to the Salvation Army or the Massena Humane Society.
