Funeral Services for Charlotte E. Van Dyke, age 86, a resident of the St. Joseph’s Nursing Home and formerly of Canton Street in Ogdensburg, will be held on Monday, Oct 25, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Rensselaer Falls Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held also on Monday from 12:00 noon until the time of the service. Mrs. Van Dyke passed away at the St. Joseph’s Nursing Home on Friday, Oct 22, 2010.
Surviving is her daughter, Sharon Alexander & her husband Philip of Norfolk; three grandchildren, Stephen P. Alexander of Poughkeepsie, Michelle A. Rowley and her husband Carter of Norwood, Randy M. Alexander of St. Regis Falls; great-grandchildren, Lance A. Rowley and Levi V. Rowley; five nieces and nephews, Roberta Patterson of Connecticut, Denise Basford of Heuvelton, Bradford Backus of Virginia, Kent Backus of Plattsburgh, Barbara Thompson of Canton and a very special friend Nancy Thomas of Ogdensburg.
She was predeceased by her husband Henry; an infant sister and her brother and sister-in-law Leroy & Irene Backus.
Charlotte was born on December 31, 1923 in Heuvelton, a daughter of the late Garfield and Hazel (Keys) Backus. She graduated from Heuvelton Central School in 1942 and married Henry Van Dyke on August 25, 1945.
During her working career she was employed in the blue print department at Rome Air Force Base and then became a co-owner of the Van Dyke Plumbing & Heating Business which she and her husband operated for many years.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Ogdensburg, and enjoyed sewing, bird watching, driving around the countryside, her many pets and eating at various restaurants.
Memorial contributions have been requested to the St. Joseph’s Foundation.
