Charles C. Garlough Sr., 78 of Massena, passed away on May 10, 2011 at Champlain Valley Hospital in Plattsburgh surrounded by his loving family.
Charles is survived by a son, Charles C. Jr. “Chuck” and companion Cuddy of Massena; six grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren; a brother, William Garlough of Holland, MI; and a sister, Betty Mehre of Stowe, OH.
He was born on August 20, 1932 in Potsdam, the son of Henry and Gladys (Killam) Garlough. Pops, as he was fondly known by friends and family, married Jane Page on August 20, 1958 at the First United Methodist Church in Massena. Mrs. Garlough predeceased him on January 24, 2001. He was educated in local schools and attended trade school in Watertown. Charles was employed at Alcoa from 1950 -1958. He retired from Potsdam State College as a steam engineer in 1993. Charles was a member of the Shriners, Norwood F & AM Masonic Lodge; he was also a coordinator for the Norfolk - Raymondville food pantry. Charles was an affiliate of the VFW # 1143, Massena.
Friends and family may be received on May 13, 2011 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m at Phillips Memorial Home in Massena. Funeral services will be held on May 14, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. at the Phillips Memorial Home in Massena. Interment will be in Bixby Cemetery.
