Carlton F. Byrns, age 90, of Little York Road in Fowler, passed away at home on Wednesday, May 18, 2011 under the care of his sons and Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley.
Calling hours will be at French Funeral Home, Gouverneur on Monday, May 23, 2011 from noon until 1:00 p.m., immediately followed by his funeral service at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Bob King officiating. Burial will be in the Spragueville Cemetery.
Carlton was born on June 22, 1920 in the town of Fowler. He was the last remaining child of the late David and Mae (Goodnough) Byrns. He attended school in Gouverneur.
Carlton was the widower of Lillian Gardner who passed away in 1986 and of Bessie Griffis who passed away in 2006.
Mr. Byrns worked the family dairy farm, the Evergreen Grove Farm, on the Byrns Road in Fowler for most of his life. He was a former 4-H Leader and a former Director of the Gouverneur Dairy Co-op.
His survivors include three sons, Gary and Bob Byrns of Gouverneur, and Jim Byrns of Watertown; a daughter and her husband, Donna and John Audycki of Sacramento, CA; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brothers, Arnold and Eugene Byrns; and his sisters, Leola Delong and Mabel Vert.
