Funeral services for Carl E. Froats, 89, of Halfway House Road, Waddington will be held on Friday Oct. 1, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at the Phillips Memorial Home, with Rev. Msgr. Robert Lawler officiating, 20 Church St., Madrid.
Friends and family may be received on Thursday, Sept. 30, 2010 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Norfolk. Carl passed away on September 28, 2010 at Canton-Potsdam Hospital.
Carl was born on April 25, 1921 in Aultsville, Ontario the only son of Earl and Fern (Pemberton) Froats. He came to Massena as a small child and attended Massena School. He married Eileen DuBray on April 23, 1949 at the Sacred Heart Rectory in Massena. The couple were dairy farmers in the Massena and Waddington, retiring in 1975 and continuing to live in Waddington.
Carl will be missed by his wife Eileen; his son, Earl (LaurieMarr) of Madrid; a daughter, Marlene Rice (Greg) of Eugene, OR; four grandchildren, Tonya Williams (Rod), Port Orange, FL., Jason Froats, (Sandra), Waddington, Gregory Rice Fr., (Shawna), Eugene, OR, and Andrew Rice (Katherine), Eugene, OR; seven great grandchildren, Elizabeth, Caleb and Abigail Froats, Xavier and Madison Williams, and Brogyn and Rylee Rice; two sisters, Beatrice Whitmore of LaHabra, Ca and Violet Cheney of Potsdam; and many nieces and nephews.
