Calvin C. Leonard Sr., 84, of Pyrites and Port Orange, FL, passed away on Thursday, January 13, 2011 at his home while under the care of his family and Hospice of the St. Lawrence Valley.
Surviving Calvin are his wife Pauline of Pyrites, two sons; Cornelius of DeGrasse and Calvin Jr. of Pyrites and three grandsons, Michael, Anthony and Christopher.
Calvin was born in Pierrepont, NY on November 24, 1926, the son of the late Oscar “Pood” and Mayfred (Fifield) Leonard. He joined the US Army in January of 1944, serving in Germany and France, and was Honorably Discharged in January 1947. On his birthday, November 24, 1951, he married Pauline G. Brabaw.
Calvin worked at ALCOA for a short time and then as a union carpenter on many jobs from California to the St. Lawrence Seaway. In 1962, he became Superintendant of Buildings and Grounds for Canton Central School until his retirement in 1981. He enjoyed 29 years of retirement, helping his sons build their homes and going to Florida with his wife, where they spent the winters.
Calvin was an avid Gardener and outdoorsman, who enjoyed deer hunting and fishing with his sons and friends.
