Betty M. Hart, 75, Canton

Funeral services for Betty M. Hart, 75, of State Hwy 310, will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Lawrence Funeral Home, Canton with Rev. Dennis Lowe and Pastor Martha Helmer co-officiating. Calling hours will be held on Friday from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be held in Crary Mills Cemetery in the spring.

Betty died Tuesday at her home while under the care of her loving family and Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley.

Surviving are her three daughters, Donna McCall and companion John Martin of Heuvelton, Kathleen Murphy and husband Larry of Canton and Carolyn Rose of Canastota; a brother, Clinton O’Shaughnessy of Kirkville; two sisters, Elizabeth Rayburn and husband Harold of Lisbon and Verna Wilson of Canton; and six grandchildren, Crystal Gordon, Brooks Allen, Cody and Cory Wagner and Josh and Jorie Rose.

Betty was preceded in death by a sister, Velma Sullivan; and a brother, Ansel and her companion of 23 years Carl McClennan.

She was born Sept. 30, 1936 in Potsdam, a daughter of Ross and Ruby (Sutton) O’Shaughnessy. She attended Potsdam Schools. On April 2, 1956 she married Robert J. Hart at the Canton United Methodist Church. The marriage ended in divorce.

Betty worked for Stroehman Bakery in Potsdam and earlier for A&P Store in the 70’s and 80’s. She was also an Avon representative for a number of years, which she enjoyed very much. She enjoyed spending time with her cats, her grandchildren and visiting with friends and family.

Betty was also associated with the VFW Post 1231 and Canton Fire & Rescue through her late companion Carl McClennan.
