Arthur Otty Bolster, 83, Brushton, died Friday, Sept. 23, at his home surrounded by his loving family and under the care of North Country Hospice.
Born Sept. 10, 1928, in Loggieville, N.B., Canada, he was the son of John
Henry Bolster and Nina Scott Johnston Bolster.
He received his education in schools in Dalhousie and Moncton, N.B. He
graduated in 1946 from Lord Moncton.
Otty moved to Cornwall, Ontario, with the Howard Smith Paper Mills in 1946,
where he met his wife. In 1950, he married Lorna Marjorie Merkley in Dunbar,
Ontario, at St. Luke¹s Lutheran Church with the Rev. H. Neff officiating.
He and his family moved to Bangor, Franklin County, in 1957, where he
engaged in farming and business. In 1975, he and his family opened the IGA
store in Brushton, where he remained for the balance of his working life.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years; two sons and daughters, Wayne Arthur
Bolster and Ian Timothy Bolster of Moira, and Patricia Ann Decker and Lois
Marjorie Charlebois, also of Moira; four grandsons; five
granddaughters; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a son, Brent Bolster; and one great-grandson, Isiah
Landis in 2006.
Otty was a lifelong Freemason and was currently a member of North Star Lodge
# 107 in Brushton. He served as master of this lodge many times and also
served as deputy grand master in New York from 1998-99.
There will be no calling hours. Interment will be at the South Bangor
Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
