Arnold D. Byrns, 96, Gouverneur

Arnold D. Byrns, age 96, of Gouverneur, passed away on June 23, 2010 in Hermon at his daughter’s home under the care of Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley and his family.

Arnold was born on November 11, 1913 in Gouverneur to the late David and Mae (Goodnough) Byrns. He graduated from Gouverneur High School and married Ardis B. Venton. Ardis passed away in August of 1985.

Mr. Byrns was an exceptional dairy farmer and owned and operated a dairy farm on the Farm to Market road in the town of Fowler. He was a member of the Gouverneur Masonic Lodge and was formerly on the Board of Education and the Farm Bureau. He enjoyed hunting, playing cards, watching football and reading.

Surviving are two sons and their wives, Mark A. and Lori Byrns of Middlebury, CT and Brian E. and Cassie Byrns of Fayetteville; four daughters and two sons-in-law, Doreen M. Byrns of Hermon, Sandra J. and Luther Cole of Goshen, Gail M. McPherson of Gouverneur and Sharon M. and David MacWilliam of Ottawa; a brother, Carlton Byrns of Gouverneur; and 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Arnold was predeceased by a brother, Eugene Byrns; and two sisters, Leola Delong and Mabel Vert.

Calling hours will be on Monday, June 28th from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. with a Masonic service with the funeral service following at 1:00 p.m. at French Funeral Home, Gouverneur with Rev. William Hart officiating. Burial will follow at Spragueville Cemetery.
