Annette R. Plante, 90, of Bagdad Road Potsdam, passed away on Feb. 19, 2012 at Canton-Potsdam Hospital.
Annette retired from Potsdam State College as Professor of French. In that time she was awarded by the Government of France Chevalier Ordre des Palmes Académiques (Order of Academic Palms) in 1984. She graduated from Massena High School with high honors, and attended New Rochelle College earning a Bachelor's Degree in Education and received her Master’s Degree at the University of Vermont.
In earlier years she was employed at Alcoa before her teaching career. Annette also worked at US Rubber, Co in New York City, she later taught in Lake Placid and retired from PotsdamState where she initiated Inter Disciplinary Courses and was the director of the Study aboard in Tour France.
Annette was born on November 21, 1921 in Massena the daughter of Dr. Ulric and Priscilla (Martin) Plante. She married James Canning who predeceased her.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by brothers, Martin, Ulric and Joseph Plante.
She was a lifelong communicant of St. Mary's Church, Massena. Annette was very supportive of the development and creation of the Wild Center in Tupper Lake, especially in the development of the Otter Pond exhibit. She enjoyed gardening and reading.
A Mass of Resurrection will be held on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Church in Massena with Rev. J. Michael Gaffney presiding. There will be no public calling hours. Interment will be held in the family plot atCalvary Cemetery in the spring.
