MASSENA -- Anna Pialoglous, age 91, passed away peacefully Friday morning September 11, 2020 at Massena Rehabilitation & Nursing Center where she had been a resident since 2016. Arrangements are under the care of Phillips Memorial Home in Massena.
Anna was born to the late John and Margaret (Kokorou) Pialoglous in Massena on April 17, 1929. Anna leaves behind a brother in law Ted Dellas of Syracuse, 1 niece, Lynda Dellas Ivan, and 2 nephews, Tom and Jerry Dellas, 7 grand nieces and nephews and one great-great niece. She was predeceased by a sister Marie Dellas in 2011 and a brother Nicholas J. in 2015.
She was a graduate from Massena High School, and went on to obtain her Bachelor’s Degree in education from Potsdam State College. Becoming an accomplished violinist gave her the opportunity to play in the Crane orchestra. After the death of her father John, Anna and her brother Nicholas operated the well-known restaurant the “Silver Grill” in downtown Massena from 1952 until 1959. She also had the added responsibility of managing the family’s Malone property.
Anna was a dedicated elementary school teacher for over 30 years at Nightengale Elementary School, in Massena, NY, touching the lives of hundreds in a positive way. She was a classy, glamorous lady with a dry sense of humor. Always well groomed and dressed in high heels and accessories, she brought a touch of “Hollywood” to her school and community. She was a member of the Eastern Star, the Massena’s Women’s College club and the NYS Retired Teachers Association.
The family wishes to thank all those who assisted Anna in her times of need, especially Ken, Darlene,Joann,Sandy, Kathy and her dear friend Rose.
Anna will be missed by family and friends. May her memory be eternal.
Family and friends may call on Thursday September 17, 2020 from 1:00 p.m. until the time of funeral services. A Funeral service for Anna will be held on 2:00 p.m. Thursday at St. John’s Episcopal Church with Rev. Peter Irfan officiating. Internment will take place following funeral services in Pine Grove Cemetery, Norfolk, NY.
