A Mass of Resurrection with full military honors for Allen J. Murray, 90, of Massena, will be held on Monday, September 13 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Church in Massena, with Rev. Michael Gaffney presiding. Friends and family may be received on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Phillips Memorial Home, 64 Andrews St. Massena. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Allen passed away on September 9, 2010 at his home under the loving care of his family and hospice.
Allen is survived by a son and two daughters, Michael A. and wife Lisa of Norwalk, Conn., Mona Romeo of Massena, and Sylvia Allen and husband Donald of Columbia, Tenn,; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Allen was born on October 17, 1919 in Dickinson Center, the son of Norman and Dora (Compo) Murray. He graduated from Massena High School in 1940.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Central Europe Theater. Following his discharge, he was employed at Alcoa and retired as a supervisor in 1982.
He married Lillian Smith on October 16, 1948 at St. Mary's Church in Massena. She predeceased him on March 13, 2010.
He was a member of VFW #1143 and American Legion Post #79, and a life member of AmVets Post #4. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #1141, 4th Degree, and Massena Senior Citizens.
Military groups will meet on Sunday at 7:15 p.m. at the funeral home. Members of Knights of Columbus Council #1141 will meet on Sunday at 8 p.m.
He enjoyed golfing, gardening, bowling and fishing.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Phillips Memorial Home in Massena.
