Alice M. Hazel, 94, Massena

Alice M. Hazel, 94, formerly of Haskell St., passed away Saturday, December 4, 2010, at the St. Regis Nursing Home, where she had been a resident since October 2008.

Alice was born October 12, 1916, in West Chazy, the daughter of William and Hermine “Minnie” St Denis Mousseau. She attended Massena schools and received her GED in 1957. Alice married Willis C. Hazel on April 17, 1937, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, with Rev. W. C. McMahon officiating. Willis predeceased her on December 20, 2001.

In her earlier years, Alice was employed at the Warner Bros. Corset Factory in Massena. Later, she was a “payment clerk” at Niagara Mohawk for many years, doing all jobs. Alice was a former member of the Firemen’s Auxiliary. She loved being outside, planting flowers and doing lawn work, enjoyed knitting and crocheting, and playing cards with her sisters. In earlier years, she enjoyed going out on the boat with her husband Willie, fishing 6-8 hours at a time.

Alice is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Mary Ann Hazel, Massena; a grandchild, Julie Hazel, Allenwood, PA; a sister, Marion and Gordon Hazel, Massena; and nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by an infant daughter, Sue Ann, age 9 days, in 1940; three sisters, Helen M. Caron, Julia Limer, and Eleanor Fyckes; and three brothers, Paul Mousseau, Harold W. Mousseau, and Lawrence C. “Larry” Mousseau.

A memorial mass will be held Monday, December 20, at 12 noon, at the Sacred Heart Church, with Rev. Donald Manfred officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Massena. There will be no public calling hours.
