EDGEWATER, Fla. – A Mass of Christian Burial for Alfonso J. D'Arienzo, 92, of Edgewater, Florida, originally from Massena, who died Sunday, Jan. 9, 2011 at The Terrace of Daytona, Daytona Beach, Florida, will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 15 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, New Smyrna Beach.
Calling hours will be 4-6 p.m. Friday at Settle-Wilder's New Smyrna Beach chapel.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, Mr. D'Arienzo moved to Florida in 1981 from Massena. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and retired from Alcoa Aluminum.
Mr. D'Arienzo was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Italian American Club, both in New Smyrna Beach, a lifetime member of American Legion Post 0420 in Waddington, New York, and member of Massena Aluminum Historical Association. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his wife of 24 years, Maidie; four brothers and sisters, Mary Romeo of Rochester, New York, Joseph D'Arienzo of Jacksonville, Florida, Virginia Wilkins and Sylvia Whitton, both of Massena; two stepchildren, Carol Goodman of Sandy, Utah and John Norris of Nashville, Tennessee; and six grandchildren, Jacquelyn, John Henry, John Jr., Gwen, David and Richie.
Mr. D'Arienzo was preceded in death by his parents, John and Immaculata; son, Rick; four brothers, Louie, Tony, Matthew, and Jim; and four sisters, Rose, Amelia, Mamie and Ann.
