Ms. Adrienne F. Brown, 61, of 1109 State Route 37, peacefully passed away Sunday evening, November 20, 2011 at her home, where she was under the care of the family, friends, and Hospice of the North Country.
Adrienne was born in Massena on November 3, 1950, the daughter of the late John P. and Louise M. David Brown. She graduated from Salmon River Central School before going to Bryant and Stratton Business School in Buffalo. After graduating from Business School, she went to SUNY Potsdam, where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree.
She worked for 27 years as a secretary for the New York Power Authority in Massena until her retirement in 2010. She had previously worked as a receptionist and secretary for the North American Indian Traveling College and the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe. She also worked for M&T Bank and American All Safe in Buffalo before returning to Akwesasne. Adrienne was a member of St. Regis Catholic Church, a member of the Snye Recreation Committee; and former member of the Mohawk Indian Housing Corporation. She enjoyed reading, snowshoeing, kayaking, watching old movies, and traveling.
Adrienne is survived by her sisters, Mary White and her husband, Larry and Janice Brown, all of Akwesasne; her sister-in-law, Rebecca Benedict Brown of Akwesasne; her chosen sisters, Brenda LaFrance and Lois Terrance, both of Akwesasne; her beloved dog, Jack; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents; and her brother, Frederic J. Brown on August 4, 2008.
Friends may call Tuesday (today) 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena, where funeral services will be held Wednesday 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Jerome Pastores, officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
Memorial contributions in Adrienne’s memory may be to the Akwesasne Cancer Support Group, Diabetes Center for Excellence, or the Hospice of the North Country.
