Benefit held this past weekend for Rensselaer Falls Historical Society and The Falls Festival

RENSSELAER FALLS — A Falls Fest Fundraiser held this weekend will benefit the Rensselaer Falls Historical Society and The Falls Festival.
The event took place Saturday, May 20, at Pioneer Park. There were games, including cornhole and Texas horseshoe.
Jaynie Trudell of Lisbon, pictured above, played music from 2-5 p.m.

Massena village hosting public hearing on paper bag use for curbside pickup

MASSENA — Massena Village Trustees have established a public hearing for July 18 to possibly allow for the use of paper bags for curbside pickup.
The news came from the board’s recent meeting on May 17.
Officials say a public hearing is necessary because village code would be amended, eventually requiring the use of paper bags instead of plastic ones for curbside service.

HAMMOND — Bella-Brooke Winery, located at 2989 County Route 6, is celebrating 10 years with a three-day celebration, "Cheers To Ten Years,” from May 26-28.
Friday, May 26, 6-9 p.m. live music featuring Carrie Woodcock.
Saturday, May 27, 1-4 p.m., spirit tasting with Black Button Distillery, 6-9 p.m. live music featuring Jaynie Trudell.
Sunday, May 28th, noon-2 p.m. live music featuring Joe Battles, Hot Kogan 2-5 p.m.
Sunday food trucks include Sunshine Tex Mex and Parkers Chuck Wagon as well as craft vendors.
Drink specials throughout the celebration.

Norwood thrift shop holding sale

NORWOOD — The Common Cents Thrift Shop, located in the lower level of St. Philip’s Episcopal Church, 42 S. Main Street, Norwood, will have a buy one, get one free (BOGO) sale beginning Tuesday, May 23, though Saturday, June 10.
Sale includes all apparel but not housewares items.
Common Cents is open Tuesdays and Thursdays 10 a.m.-2 p.m., and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to noon.
Donations are accepted during even months only – February, April, June, August, October, December.

The Canton Free Library team, the Flaming Phoenixes, made up of students from Little River Community School, won first place at the North Country Library System's Regional Battle of the Books in Gouverneur on Saturday, May 20. There were 11 teams who competed that day and the competition was fun and lively. Isaac K. Oduro, 23, Jamaica, was charged with no/inadequate headlights, operating without insurance, unregistered motor vehicle and third-degree unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle at 2:04 a.m. on May 19 on Park St.
Oduro was issued the listed Uniform Traffic Tickets after patrol observed
Oduro operating a motor vehicle with no headlights in operation after dark. Upon traffic stop it was determined the vehicle had a fake GA temporary registration and was not registered and was not insured. A DMV check on Oduro revealed his license was suspended.

Graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 27, 2023, at 2:30 pm at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Hogansburg, NY.
Arrangements are under the care of the Phillips Memorial Home, in Massena.
