SLC Arts annual Artists’ Studio Tour continues Sept. 24-25 across St. Lawrence County
The SLC Arts annual Artists’ Studio Tour begins their third weekend on Sept. 24 and 25, covering the Ogdensburg, Waddington, and Madrid regions.
The Studio Tour allows for local artists to open their doors to the public, giving patrons the unique opportunity to develop an understanding of the artistic process, ask questions, and view artwork that is available for purchase.
The tour will continue for a final weekend, covering the Potsdam, Parishville, and Colton region on Oct. 1 and 2.

Annual Model Train, Toy & Collectible Expo set for Sept. 24-25 in Massena
MASSENA — The Norwood Model Railroad Club is sponsoring its Annual Model Train, Toy & Collectible Expo at the Massena Arena on Saturday, Sept. 24, from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 25 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
Admissions is $5 with children younger than 10 free.
Attendees will see more than seven operating model train layouts of different sizes and gauges, visit many vendors, and attend a clinic on model railroad scenery.
The expo will offer something for all ages.
Weather permitting there will be free miniature outdoor train rides for young and old.
PCS Music Friends seek donations of instruments to help Potsdam school music programs
POTSDAM – PCS Music friends is asking community members to donate instruments, to help the Potsdam schools' music programs.

'Masonic Lodges on the Air' event planned in Parishville Saturday
PARISHVILLE — Masons who are amateur radio operators will participate in a program entitled “Masonic Lodges on the Air“ on Sept. 24.
The radio contest is in its second year and will occur annually each September. The goal is to contact as many stations set up at Masonic Lodges and individual Masons across our state, country, and the world.
The event will promote public awareness of both Ham Radio and Freemasonry.
The public is invited to visit event locations and may operate a radio under the supervision of a licensed amateur.

St. Lawrence County’s first responders are getting a major boost in their wireless communications thanks to the FirstNet® network expansion currently underway by AT&T.
The new cell site services Route 27 (Stone School–Waterman Hill Road) south of Canton and Route 68 between Canton & Pierrepont, including Pierrepont, Glenmeal, Taylor Creek State Forests, and Lawrence-Brasher Falls.

The 17th annual Higley Hundred Bike Ride had a turnout of about 60 participants starting and ending at Higley Flow State Park Sept. 10.
County sheriff providing Hermon-DeKalb school with school resource officer

CANTON — Hermon-Dekalb Central School will have a school resource officer provided by the St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office throughout the academic year.
The move was approved unanimously by the St. Lawrence County Legislature during an Operations Board meeting held on Monday, Sept. 19.
According to Sheriff Brooks Bigwarfe, the position is a full-time spot for one year with an option for two additional years.
Model Train, Toy & Collectible Expo to be held at Massena Arena
MASSENA — The 13th Annual St. Lawrence Valley Model Train, Toy & Collectible Expo, sponsored by the Norwood Model Railroad Club, will be held Saturday, Sept. 24, from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 25 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at Massena Arena, Route 37.
Admission is $5 or free for children 10 and younger.
The event will benefit the Massena Recreation Department.
Those attending will be able to see model train operating layouts from NY and Canada, and attend a free modeling clinic.
Vendors will be on hand buying, selling and appraising hobby train equipment.
Crane concerts planned in Potsdam
POTSDAM — SUNY Potsdam's Crane School of Music is preparing to host the competition finals for the 2024 Domenic J. Pellicciotti Opera Composition Prize -- welcoming leading composers and librettists from around the world to campus.
Joined by guest artists, the award-winning Crane Opera Ensemble will present commissioned scenes from four final works in free public performances on Sunday, Sept. 25 at 1 p.m. and 5 p.m., to be held in the Sara M. Snell Music Theater.
