St. Lawrence County aims to focus on residential cleanups

CANTON — Building on the success of remediating commercial properties, St. Lawrence County aims to focus on residential cleanups.
Efforts over the last decade has also led to over 80 commercial properties being cleared or cleaned up through the commercial environmental remediation program.
The Finance Committee approved the creation of a similar program which will target residential properties at the Jan. 30 meeting.

Goldenaires offering singing Valentine's in St. Lawrence County this year

CANTON – The Goldenaires are preparing their quartets for another day of fun with surprise deliveries of Singing Valentines.
Valentines Day falls on a Tuesday, Feb. 14, this year and the barbershop groups will deliver from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. throughout St. Lawrence County.
The Goldenaires have delivered between 45 and 50 per day over the past few years with all the proceeds benefiting high school senior applicants.

SUNY Potsdam College Council to hold meeting Feb. 3 in Raymond Hall

POTSDAM – The SUNY Potsdam College Council will hold its third meeting of the 2022-23 academic year on Friday, Feb. 3 at 10 a.m., in the Raymond Hall eighth floor dining room.
The meeting will stream live online via YouTube, and will be open to the public.
College Council Chair June O'Neill (Hon. '99) will open the meeting, followed by a presentation on SUNY Potsdam's role hosting the Lake Placid 2023 FISU World University Games, and a report from Officer-in-Charge Dr. Philip T. Neisser '79.

Congresswoman Elise Stefanik is calling for a favorable dairy trade for North Country dairy farmers.
The United States Trade Representative (USTR) is planning to take action to address Canada’s breach of the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) and proper access to the Canadian market for area dairy farmers, officials say.

St. Lawrence County legislature looking to partner with Franklin County for salt purchases

CANTON – St. Lawrence County and Franklin County are partnering up to purchase road salt through the 2023-2024 St. Lawrence County salt bid.
Legislators approved a resolution for the deal during the Finance Committee’s Jan. 30 meeting.
According to County Highway Superintendent Don Chambers, St. Lawrence County appears set to see increased road salt prices.

Waddington man charged with stealing $328.15 worth of merchandise from Walmart

POTSDAM — A Waddington man has been charged in an alleged theft from the Potsdam Walmart.
Austin B. Villnave, 27, was charged on Feb. 1 stemming from an incident that occurred on Jan. 14, deputies say.
According to police, Villnave is accused of stealing $328.15 worth of merchandise from Walmart.
He has been charged with petit larceny, a class A Misdemeanor, deputies say.
Villnave was issued an appearance ticket for Town of Potsdam Court at a later date.
