Russell Public Library's fall dinner Friday

RUSSELL – The Russell Public Library will be having a Fall Dinner on Friday, Oct. 22 starting at 5 p.m. until all are served.
It will be a buffet style dinner with homemade pies for dessert. Tickets for adults are $7, 5 to 12 years are $5, under 5 yrs are free.
This dinner will be held in the community room attached to the library.

Parishville Hilltoppers holding Round and Square Halloween Dance Oct. 22

PARISHVILLE – The Parishville Hilltoppers will hold their Round and Square Halloween Dance from 7 to 11 p.m. Friday, Oct. 22 at the Parishville Firemen’s Hall, Rutmen Road.
Classic Country Band will provide music and refreshments will be served. A donation of $3 per person is requested. Prizes will be awarded for best costumes.

Aubertine receives support from United Healthcare Workers East

State Sen. Darrel J. Aubertine has received the support 1199 SEIU, United Healthcare Workers East, which represents more than 1,000 healthcare workers at hospitals in the 48th Senate District.
“I’m proud to have the support of these men and women in the SEIU who tend to our health care needs,” Sen. Aubertine said. “We continue to face budget deficits and I will not stop working for all of us to protect our health care needs and the working families who provide us all with great service every day.”

Potsdam Chamber names 2010 'Commitment to Community' recipient

POTSDAM – The Potsdam Chamber of Commerce will honor Pam Yurgartis as its 2010 Commitment to the Community Award winner.
The award will be presented at the chamber’s annual dinner on Wednesday, Nov. 10 at SUNY Potsdam’s Thatcher Hall.
Yurgartis has been part of many service organizations, including the Potsdam Parent Teacher Student Association, the Potsdam Public Library board, the Friends of the Potsdam Library, the Potsdam Holiday Fund, and Kiwanis.

Roos men's ice hockey tripped up by Potsdam Bears 4-1

(Potsdam, N.Y.)- The SUNY Canton men's ice hockey team suffered a 4-1 setback to SUNY Potsdam Wednesday night at Maxcy Hall.
The Roos (5-1) had been red-hot entering Wednesday night's game winning their first five games to start the season.
Jimmy Merrow (Plainsboro, N.J.) stopped a season-high 37 shots in goal for the Roos. The senior had 19 saves in the second period and allowed just one goal holding off a barrage of Potsdam shots.

No. 13 Panthers shut out Saints, 2-0 in field hockey

The St. Lawrence University field hockey team fell to nationally-ranked No. 13 Middlebury College on Wednesday evening by the score of 2-0 at Kohn Field in Middlebury, VT.
The loss drops the Scarlet and Brown to 5-8 on the season, while the Panthers improve to 9-3 behind the team's fourth straight shutout victory.

Pretty In Pink! Saints Defeat Golden Knights 3-2 in volleyball event

The St. Lawrence University volleyball team defeated arch rival Clarkson University 3-2 in thrilling fashion on Tuesday evening at the Burkman Gymnasium. The Saints claimed the win in front of a record-setting crowd of 842 fans, the majority of which were wearing pink in honor of the "Dig Pink" event.

SUNY Canton's Payne named ECHL Player of the Week

(Canton, N.Y.)-Forward John Payne (Port Moody, B.C.) has been named the Eastern Collegiate Hockey League Player of the Week after leading the Roos to a sweep of Mercyhurst College.
The sophomore had two goals and four assists in the two wins. He had three assists in the Roos' 6-1 win on Friday night and then had two goals and an assist in a 6-3 on Saturday.
Payne leads the team in assists (9) and total points (15) and is tied for the team-lead in power play goals with two.

Bears collect 10th win in women's soccer of 2010 season; Poirier scores twice in record-setting triumph

POTSDAM, N.Y. (10/20/2010)(readMedia)-- The SUNY Potsdam women's soccer team matched its all-time wins record for a season with a 3-0 non-conference victory at Morrisville St. on Wednesday afternoon.
Senior Cortney Poirier (Moira, N.Y.) scored twice in the match for the Bears (10-8),
who scored just under eight minutes into the match and never looked back.
"It was a good team performance," Potsdam coach Tim Moody said. "We got the goals we needed, and we battled and worked hard after playing down two players in the first half."
