CANTON – A funeral Mass for David Dewan, 58, of Canton will be held on Monday, December 27, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the St. Mary’s Church in Canton with Rev. Douglas Lucia, celebrating.
Burial will be in the Purmort Cemetery in the spring.
Mr. Dewan passed away at home on Wednesday, December 22, 2010.
Friends may call at the O’Leary Funeral Home on Sunday, December 26, 2010 from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m.
Blood drive in Potsdam Dec. 30

POTSDAM -- Canton-Potsdam Hospital and the American Red Cross plan a blood drive from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 30 in Conference Rooms A & B on the hospital’s second floor. All blood types are needed, but there is a special need for type O-negative, which can be given to a patient of any blood type in an emergency.
Donors must be at least 17 years of age and must weigh at least 110 pounds. Donors may wish to ask about becoming a DRC (Double Red Count) donor, as it can benefit even more recipients.

Clarkson and high tech company partner up for research, jobs in North Country

POTSDAM – Clarkson University and Syracuse-area high-tech product development and manufacturing company C Speed have formed a new partnership that leverages C Speed’s strengths with Clarkson's resources in advanced materials processing, aerodynamics and renewable energy, the university has announced.
Together, the two organizations will establish a technical center in Peyton Hall on Clarkson's Village Campus.

Saints program matches highest Learfield Cup standing

St. Lawrence University's athletic program has matched its highest ranking since the introduction of the Director's Cup in 1995-96, finishing the fall season ranked 14th among 162 NCAA Division III programs which qualified for ranking in the Learfield Cup standings.
The National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics runs what is now the Learfield Cup, which ranks programs based on participation in NCAA tournaments and championships. A total of seven fall sports are considered for ranking with points awarded based on team finish in the NCAA championships.

Mrs. Rebecca L. “Becky” LaFayette, 88, of 92 County Route 40, passed away on Sunday, December 19, 2010 at the home of her dear friend, Shirley Smith in Lakeland, Florida, with her family by her side.
Becky was born August 10, 1922 in Constable, the daughter of Wilber Albert and Lucy Mary Gibeault Gokey. She attended schools in Malone, where she graduated. On October 21, 1941, she married Sidney Henry LaFayette at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Constable with Rev. Compeau, officiating.

Assemblywoman Russell says Paterson refusal to sign power agreement has 'let down' North Country

Assemblywoman Addie Russell says that in failing to sign the agreement making low-cost power available to the St. Lawrence River Valley Redevelopment Agency, Gov. David Paterson has “let down” the North Country, but that she has not given up on the plan.
“After months of negotiations between the newly formed St. Lawrence River Valley Redevelopment Agency and the New York Power Authority, Governor Paterson dashed the hopes of everyone who has worked on this issue when he refused to sign the contract,” Assemblywoman Russell said.

Three people hurt in Lisbon crash, Brasher man charged with DWI following separate accident

Three people were hurt in a two-vehicle crash in Lisbon and a motorist in Brasher was charged with drunk driving after losing control of his vehicle Wednesday.
State police investigated a two-vehicle accident along St. Rt 11C in Lawrence Wednesday in which three people were hurt.
Vehicles driven by Rebecca L. Walters, 44, of Hartford, Vt., and Jason R. Downer, 21, Norwood, apparently collided at about 4 p.m.
Police say they have concluded their investigation of that accident.
